Around Here

Quinn totally rocked it at swim lessons this week and had the most awesome backstroke.  He did so well that he got a special ribbon for his effort.

We continue to have lots of playdates with friends.  And apparently my camera skills are really declining.

It\’s starting to get pretty dark and chilly at Wednesday soccer practice.

Both car seats stay in the car at all times these days.  I\’m considering getting a bigger car as I\’ve already had to say no to people asking me to pick up multiple kids.  I don\’t mind being a mom taxi 🙂

Quinn is so proud of his Guardians of the Galaxy tattoo that came in a birthday card from Grams.  It\’s a good thing we don\’t bathe very often around here.

Friday afternoon playdate.  This reminds me a little of Quinn and Lucas.  In fact Quinn has been known to call him Lucas  🙂

Every Friday Quinn\’s class has a spelling test.  This week he got an awesome!

Life has been pretty darned good around here.

Happy Birthday Quinn!

Quinn was one happy boy yesterday on his birthday.  Not that he isn\’t always happy but he loved his birthday!!!

He asked for waffles for breakfast so I whipped up some fresh homemade waffles for our birthday boy.

And he asked for a lunchable for lunch.  I\’m sure this is standard lunch fare for most american kids but I try to avoid them as they aren\’t the healthiest.  Quinn only gets them on special occasions.

A happy boy on our way to school.   The school doesn\’t allow food or toys for birthday celebrations, which I\’m a-ok with.  He took in a book to donate to the classroom.  He chose The Hallo-Weiner.

After school we skyped with Grams.

And then had some silly FaceTime with Lucas and Kaiden.

For dinner Quinn chose Mongolian BBQ so that he could pick out his own food and watch it be cooked.

Then it was home and a call from Mae and opening her presents.  This magic kit was a big hit.

And opening the rest of his gifts.

And then cake time.  Quinn loves ice cream cakes and Baskin Robbins now carries this small size which was just right for our family.  Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate.

Happy Birthday to the sweetest, smartest, kindest, silliest, most curious, funny boy I know!!!

Our Weekend in Carlsbad, continued

Our original plan for Day 2 was to go to the San Diego Safari Park which is separate from the zoo and closer to Carlsbad.  However it is about 30 minutes inland and the forecast was for 102 degrees.  So we decided to go to the San Diego Zoo in San Diego instead where it was supposed to be 82 degrees.
We were happy that we weren\’t in TO.

Starting off our morning with some new legos.

Then we decided not to go to the zoo but have a beach day instead.  What a great decision that was.  The hotel had all the supplies we needed…chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, etc.

Making friends.

A look down the beach.

The water was warm enough to swim in.  Quinn had a great time boogie boarding.

The water was beautiful.

Don heading out to surf.  Honestly I wasn\’t feeling that comfortable with it because these waves were crushing!!

Catching a good one!

He\’s got it!

He\’s on it!

Oh!  I have to give it to him for trying.  These were no Costa Rica waves.

Camp Pendelton is nearby and there were planes and helicopters in the air all the time, day and night.

I finally had my dolphin sighting.

At one point we started seeing these strange things in the sky.  Sky writing?

Skytypers.

I had arranged for a babysitter for Saturday night so Don and I could hit the cute little town of Carlsbad.  It was the perfect size for walking with still enough to do.
And lots of funky art.

First stop, wine tasting.

My wine tasting buddy.  A dreadlock sheepdog.

The next morning we wrapped it up and drove home along the PCH with a stop for lunch on the beach.  A spectacular weekend!
