This was the last band concert of the year being held at the school. Most of Quinn’s band is made up of Seniors so this was their last high school band concert and they were all recognized. And this was the last concert at the school for the Band Director, Ms. Forrester, as she will be leaving after this year. But, we are super excited for the new band director next year and will get to meet him soon.

We were pleasantly surprised by the last song they played because it was low brass/tuba heavy. Usually Quinn tells us when he has a more prominent part but he didn’t this time. He really enjoyed playing this piece. Skip to 11:30 in the video to hear the piece.

It’s been a couple of busy weeks for the band. On Saturday, May 6 was the WHS Jazz Festival — one of our biggest fundraising events. Over 40 bands travel to the Jazz Festival to play. All the bands are judged and awards are given (I have no idea who won awards).

Quinn plays in the lowest level jazz band. Like Quinn, most of the kids in this band started playing a new instrument in November and this was their first performance as a band. It’s amazing to see how many kids play multiple instruments. Every time I turn around, one of his friends has picked up a new instrument. Crazy, talented kids!

The Concert Band has one more performance at the All District Band Festival and the Jazz Band has one more parent performance at the school. Then it’s a wrap and back to Marching Band!
