San Francisco: Day 1

Quinn had asked to go to SF and had a handful of things on his agenda:  Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and Chinatown.  So over the long 4th of July weekend we made a road trip up to SF.  Don and I had been before several times but this was our first time with Quinn and it was a whole new city to us.
We stayed down near the Embarcadero and the old Ferry Building.  This was a view from our hotel.  

We were on the road at 5 am and were lucky to be able to check in to our hotel when we arrived.  The guys took a nap while I went and walked down near the water.

We purchased City Passes so which covered all public transportation and a handful of museums.  The new Exploratorium was a kids paradise.  It was one of the best hands on science-y kids museums that we have been too and we spent hours in there.   (Creating fog, Eau de Toilet, selfie, selfie, Quinn, Jacques Cousteau art made out of shells, monochromatic room)

Then it was on to Fisherman\’s Wharf for dinner.  It was SO crowded and we were skeptical of the restaurant that could seat us right away for dinner but it was pretty delicious.  Don went with the SF classic Cioppino.

Waiting for our ride.  We ended up walking back to the hotel which was about 1+ mile down the Embarcadero.

We decided to scope out the Ferry Building for some dessert.  The building has turned in to a foodie haven with all sorts of gourmet food shops and restaurants.

Guess which ice cream we got?  How can you pass us a Secret Breakfast with bourbon and cornflakes?

Lovely Jennette

A sad farewell to Meg\’s mother Jennette (aka Nanny) who passed away on July 4th.  She was so loved by her big family and she was a pretty easy lady to love.  Jennette was kind and generous and would always greet you with a big smile and a sparkle in her eyes.  She remembered Quinn on his birthday and special holidays and surprised him with some of the most unique books.  And she proudly displayed pictures of Quinn that we sent her.  Jennette was a remarkable lady!

Griffith Observatory

This past Sunday we made our first visit to the Griffith Observatory.  You go through downtown LA to get there an it\’s set up on a hill high above Hollywood.  Up near the Hollywood sign.

It seemed that everyone had the same idea because it was pretty crowded.  But the building itself and the location were stunning.  
As we were walking up to the building, Quinn had such a big smile on his face and gave me the biggest hug and said \”I LOVE SCIENCE!\”.

We had to find a geocache while we were there so we made a quick pitstop on our way to the car.
