The Westlake High School Regiment has been working hard this fall and based on their performance over the season they made it to the Championships (the top 12 teams qualify) on Saturday, November 23.
A couple of nights ago the Regiment performed their show called “Maiden Voyage” for family & friends at a community night. The show “Maiden Voyage” is a shipwreck in reverse so at the end of the show the ship comes back together. Here’s the full band on the ship. Quinn is all the way to the left.

It takes a huge team of parents working all day to support the team and I volunteer on the Uniform Team, or wherever I am needed. Don volunteers with the Truck Dads who load/unload all the instruments and props into our 18-wheeler. This Saturday we started at the school at 7:30 am because we had to drive about 90 minutes to Long Beach Valley College for the competition with a 2 pm performance.

This year any kid with long hair had to wear it in French braids. Quinn doesn’t love the braids, but I don’t think he minds having his hair braided by a cute saxophone player.

Team Meeting before the show. You can always spot Quinn!

It was sprinkling on and off all day which isn’t great for some of the musical instruments. This is the other Quinn in Regiment who plays the cello. Truck Dad Don gave the shirt off his back to protect Quinn’s cello.

It is always bittersweet to see their final Regiment performance of the year and knowing that a handful of Seniors are moving on. But we cheer loudly and ring our annoying cowbells. Let’s Go Westlake!

Here’s a video of their full performance.
Westlake was seeded 7th going into the competition and they finished in 6th place! They were so happy to place better than their seed and to beat their crosstown rival, Thousand Oaks High School, who won it all last year but finished 9th this year.
Proud mom and dad!

The kids were so happy and watching them celebrate justifies all the hard work everyone puts into this team all year. Quinn always has someone on his shoulders. Sousaphone or 160 pound kid — all the same!
