WHS had their Fall Band Concert which included both the Jazz bands and Concert bands. This was their first concert with the new band director, Ken Karlin.
Quinn started playing the trombone last Fall so that he could participate in the jazz bands and this year he is in the middle level jazz band.
Quinn was not feeling well the day of the concert so I kept him home from school. He was feeling much better later in the day and was ready to play. Quinn has a solo in this performance. He’s not close enough to the microphone to hear it loudly but we are so proud of him for volunteering to play the solo — it takes courage. Here is Gumbo Caliente and Quinn’s solo is at about 1:30.
Lab Jazz (looking in the balcony to the official photographer). You may recognize the other members of Quinn’s summer jazz group. Sterling (front middle with sax), Nathan (front 3rd from right with sax), and Hayden (over Quinn’s shoulder in back).

Mr. Trombone leaving the stage.

And here is Wind Orchestra, which is WHS’s premier honor band. The euphonium player was really worried about Quinn being too sick to attend this concert and told him he really wanted him there. After we heard the first song, which is heavy with low brass, we understood why. At the end of each song the director asked the students that are featured to stand so you can see Quinn standing at the end of the first and second songs.
And Wind Orchestra.
