Happy Birthday Sonic!

After the year we have had him I guess we\’re all lucky we made it a year!!!  But we did and he gets a little less naughty every day.
We sang Happy Birthday to him last night.

I got him a doggy cupcake from Sprinkles.

And of course this is the whole reason we got Sonic.

Although back then Q wasn\’t so sure.

Twelve weeks old.

And my favorite buddy ever.

Hello 1st Grade

Honestly, I was very nervous.

A fresh start at Lang Ranch Elementary with all new routines with all new kids and all new parents and all new teachers.

Quinn didn\’t seem nervous at all.  He had such a good experience with the boys on his t-ball team (most attend Lang Ranch) that he was only expecting good things (after some not so great experiences with the boys in his class last year).

The day before we found out that Quinn would be in the same class with his buddy Zach so he had a friend in his class.

So off we went on Wednesday morning.

Everyone got there early and it was a bit of a mad house.  While we were waiting for the class room to open I saw a little boy sitting off to the side whistling.  It turns out that this sweet little guy who is in Quinn\’s is also new to the school and lives down the street from us.  I told him that Quinn could whistle and he asked if Quinn could whistle any Minecraft songs.  Ha!  The friendship was sealed.

Quinn\’s teacher, Mrs. Cano, greeted all the students.  I liked her right away and I later found out that she is one of the more requested teachers.  Wahoo!

It\’s funny how the kids just know to go in, find their spot, and get settled.

Quinn\’s desk is right across from Zach\’s desk.  Not sure if that\’s good or bad 😉

A look at his schedule for the day.

I wish I grabbed a picture of the kids coming out of the classroom because they were all beaming!  I asked Quinn how his day was and his reply was \”AWESOME\”.

It was a great first day and felt like a new chapter for our family.

Morning with my Buddies

Many mornings Quinn, Sonic, and I hang out in Quinn\’s room for the first hour or so of our day.  It\’s great screen-free time where we goof off, read books, just hang out.  We connect and have fun together.

On Monday I was loving this time together and also feeling melancholy because of the start of school on Wednesday.  I told my buddies to stay put and got my camera out to document this very special time together.  I will miss these slow mornings together.

And another reminder why we got this furry little trouble maker.

This goof ball dog likes to get his name tag in his mouth and just hold it.  Like this.

The many faces of Quinn.  And one more male in our family that likes to have his tongue hanging out.

See the tongue hanging out on both of them?

Quinn encouraging Sonic to suck his thumb.  He loves when Sonic licks him because it means he loves him.

Oh no, the tag fell out of my mouth.  I have to get it!

Quinn loves to sit on my lap and then have Sonic sit in his lap.  It worked better when Sonic weighed 20 pounds.  Sonic is still going after that tag and is not cooperating with our triple selfie.

Soccer Time

Quinn started playing soccer with the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) league.  It\’s an all volunteer league and really popular in our area.

He needed some new gear for his first practice on Wednesday night.   Awesome!!

The coach is life long soccer lover and is really great with the boys.  Here is Quinn with Coach Randy dribbling through the cones.

An iPad Summer

This summer has been dominated by the iPad.
We don\’t have alot of friends yet so it\’s usually just me and Quinn.  We\’ve been on a couple of adventures and we get out of the house every day but we both spend alot of time on screens.
But lately Quinn has found TED Ed.  If you\’re not familiar with TED…
TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.

Quinn\’s favorite TED Ed videos that he watches over and over….
So yes, he plays alot of Minecraft and Terraria and other crap on his iPad.  But he can also tell you the size of the Pacific Garbage Patch, what products contain nurdles and damage ocean life, why MRSA is so resistant, and much more that I will ever know about tattoos.
It\’s an iPad summer.

Kidspace Museum

On Saturday we wanted to get out of the house.  I remembered this place in Pasadena called Kidspace.  I mentioned to Don that they had a \”Physics Forest\”.  Decision made.

The kaleidoscope entrance.  Very cool!

This was the very cool Raindrop Climber.  You climbed up these clear circles to the top about 40 feet high where you had a view out the window over the roof.

The Wisteria Climber.

All that climbing made for one hot boy.  Time for some shade and lunch.

It was a hot one.

The many faces of Q.

And finally, the Physics Forest!!

There were 13 hands on experiments for Quinn to check out.

The Giant Lever.

Time to go home and take a dip.

Evidence that I was there too.
